The five-layer wall that keeps a tropical sauna from growing mould

Check the electrical supply before you fall for a design

This is the order we insist on: work out the electrics first, then draw the cabin. A dry sauna heater at 6–9 kW needs an installed supply of 7,700–11,000 VA, while older Surabaya houses commonly still run at 2,200–5,500 VA. Raising supply with PLN takes time and carries an official cost the homeowner pays — we manage that process end to end. Every circuit uses heat-resistant SiHF cable with its own breaker and ELCB protection, never a tap off an existing lighting circuit. Heaters come from Harvia, Sawo or Tylo with a 1–2 year factory warranty; doors use 8 mm tempered glass; a full accessory set — bucket, ladle, stones, thermometer, sand timer — is available to order alongside the build. We keep a small stock of common accessory replacements so a worn stone set or a cracked thermometer does not mean waiting weeks for a reorder.

Monthly upkeep, once the build is right

For two to three sessions a week, a dry sauna’s running budget sits at IDR 200,000–500,000 a month — power, cleaning, and light checks. The routine itself is simple: open the vents after each session, wipe the benches, and inspect the heater stones once a month. We leave a written maintenance sheet at handover so anyone in the household can keep it running properly.
